Nigerian 2015 Eid El-Kabir Public Holidays Announced

(Posted on Sunday, September 13, 2015)

Source: Official Gazette of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Abuja)

Following tonight's surprise announcement of a change in the date of the upcoming Eid al Adha by Saudi Arabia, the Minister of Interior of the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the Nigerian Government had decided to move the date of the upcoming Eid al Adha in Nigeria to September 24, as well.

As we had mentioned last year (27-Sep-2014, 12-Oct-2013, 11-Oct-2013 and 22-Oct-2012), after a one-year relapse (13-Aug-2012), the Nigerian Government seemed to have abandoned its previous practice of following the Libyan Muslim calendar (14-Sep-2007), and today's lockstep reaction to the Saudi announcement (13-Sep-2015) is proof of that.
