Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, has announced that Wednesday, August 23, 2017, would be a one-off public holiday (tolerância de ponto) on account of the upcoming fourth general elections in Angola.

The aforementioned announcement that Wednesday, August 23, 2017, would be a one-off public holiday (tolerância de ponto) on account of the upcoming general elections, confirms the similar announcement made at the beginning of the year (24-Apr-2017).

The declaration of Wednesday, August 23, 2017, as a one-off public holiday in Angola, as was the declaration, 5 years ago (22-Aug-2012), of Friday, August 31, 2012, as a one-off public holiday in Angola is based on the Lei n.º 36/11 (Lei Orgânica sobre as Eleições Gerais) gazetted in December 2011, and which states in its Article 18 that the date of general elections, if they are held on an otherwise regular workday, must be declared public holidays ("Deve ser decretada tolerância de ponto para o dia da votação quando este for um dia normal de trabalho").
