Gibraltar Confirms September 4 Public Holiday

(Posted on Sunday, August 20, 2017)

Source: Government of Gibraltar Press Office (Gibraltar)

The Government of Gibraltar has issued a statement confirming that the 2017 day in lieu non-working public holiday for the National Day annual public holiday of Gibraltar would be observed on Monday, September 4, 2017, and that Monday, September 11, 2017, would not be declared a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Gibraltar.

The aforementioned statement by the Government of Gibraltar is in reaction to a social media campaign calling for a change to the upcoming day in lieu non-working public holiday for the National Day annual public holiday of Gibraltar, which had been set to Monday, September 4, 2017, the day after the MTV Calling Music Festival, in the "Bank and Public Holidays Order 2016" (LN. 2016/217) which specifies the official list of annual Gibraltar bank holidays and non-working public holidays in Gibraltar for the upcoming calendar year 2017 (15-Nov-2016), in a marked departure from the usual rules for the Gibraltar National Day annual non-working public holiday (02-Nov-2015, 01-Nov-2014, 02-Nov-2013 and 28-Oct-2012).
