    The government of Cape Verde, in accordance with a resolution from the Council of Ministers of March 17, 2026, has issued the Resolution No. 57/2026, of March 24 (Boletim Oficial n.º 34, I Série de 24-03-2026) declaring a one-off public sector holiday (tolerância de ponto) for the afternoon of Thursday, April 2, 2026, on account of Maundy Thursday.

    As per the aforementioned resolution, "A day off is granted to employees and agents of the State, Public Institutes and Local Authorities during the afternoon of Holy Thursday, April 2, 2026, throughout the national territory" and this is done "Taking into account the practice of granting time off during Holy Week and the celebration of Easter throughout the National Territory; and Pursuant to paragraph 2 of Article 265 of the Constitution".

    The Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Law of Nepal's Province of Lumbini, Lok Bahadur Sunar, has announced the provincial government's decision to declare a public holiday on Thursday, March 26, 2026 (Chaitra 12), on the occasion of Chaitra Dashain (Shukla Ashtami), a festival observed by followers of Hinduism.

    As per the Ministry's announcement, this public holiday is being granted in accordance with the prior decision and notice dated Chaitra 21, 2081, mentioned in Section 14, Part 3, Clause 8 of the Provincial Gazette, and it applies to all government offices and public bodies within the province.

    The South Korean National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee has approved an amendment to the South Korean Public Holidays Act which designates Labor Day as a legal holiday on May 1.

    The aforementioned amendment still requires approval at the Cabinet meeting after the plenary session of the Public Administration and Security Committee and the plenary session of the National Assembly, but this is expected to pass in time for this year's May 1st.

    The Government of the Indian State of Assam has issued the Government Order No.2095075/101 declaring a public holiday for Thursday, April 9, 2026, on account of the upcoming Assam Assembly polls.

    As per the aforementioned official notification issued by the General Administration Department, the April 9 public holiday has been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, to facilitate smooth conduct of polling, and will apply to all government and non-government offices, including Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), urban local bodies, educational institutions, business and commercial establishments, as well as banks, tea gardens, industries and "other establishments across the state".

    Earlier today, Slovakia's Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenicky (Smer-SD), speaking on the JOJ 24's discussion program Politika 24, estimated to 10 million Euros the residual cost to the Slovakian budget due to the cancellation of the May 8 and September 15 annual public holidays.

    As per Minister Kamenicky, "we say that when we abolished a public holiday for people, they should be entitled, and I am referring to public administration, to bonuses".

    Mideplan and the MTSS enjoined other branches of government, autonomous institutions, municipalities, and public universities to consider implementing this measure according to their capabilities.

    The Chief Secretary to the Government of India's State of Andhra Pradesh has issued the vide notification G.O.Rt.No.612 moving the date of the upcoming Id-ul-Fitr public holiday from Friday, March 20, to Saturday, March 21, 2026.

    As per the aforementioned order, the change was made based on inputs from the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board and in line with traditional moon-sighting practices.

    Until today, Andhra Pradesh was one of the few Indian states, along with Kerala and parts of Puducherry, to have set March 20 as the date of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
