Background Information

Governing Law: Montserrat's Labor Code recognizes 11 statutory holidays, but leaves the door open for additional, one-off public holidays to be declared. Interestingly, the 1999 Public Holidays Act only lists 10 public holidays, presumably lumpimg December 31st with January 1st.  St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated as a public holiday in Montserrat, in commemoration of the unsuccessful slave uprising on that day in 1768.  Montserrat International Codes MS and MSR (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .ms (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Montserrat information and news: Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (Montserrat central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Montserrat maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Montserrat), and Wikipedia (includes Montserrat commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
