02 Nov 2011 (Diario de Centro América-Diario público de Guatemala) The Guatemalan President, Álvaro Colom Caballeros, has declared Monday, November 7, 2011, as a one-off non-working public sector holiday in Guatemala on account of the second round of the current presidential elections.  07 Sep 2011 (Diario de Centro América-Diario público de Guatemala) The Guatemalan President, Álvaro Colom Caballeros, has declared Monday, September 12, 2011, as a one-off non-working public sector holiday in Guatemala on account of the first round of the upcoming presidential elections.  16 Nov 2010 (Diario de Centro América-Diario público de Guatemala) The Guatemalan Parliament (Congreso de la República) has passed in its final vote a law that amends the date of Guatemalan public holidays when they fall on a mid-week date.  13 May 2010 (Diario de Centro América-Guatemala City) The Comisión de Economía y Comercio Exterior of Guatemala's Congress is considering a bill that would move mid-week public holidays to a nearby Monday.  21 Jan 2009 (Prensa Libre-Guatemala City) In a recent interview, Mariano Beltranena, the president of Guatemala's Chamber of Tourism (Cámara Guatemalteca de Turismo, or Camtur), has indicated that his organization will sponsor a new law to move mid-week public holidays to the nearest Friday or Monday, as is done in many other Latin American countries.  24 Aug 2007 (Telediario 3) The President of Guatemala, Oscar Berger, announced, earlier today, that he had declared Monday, September 10, 2007, as a one-off public holiday to compensate people for traveling back, often far, to their place of electoral registration, for the Presidential and Legislative elections on the day before.  16 Apr 2007 (La Prensa Libre) Guatemala's Teachers' Union is currently renegotiating its collective agreement with the government.  14 Feb 2007 (Office of the Press Secretary-the White House) US President, George W. Bush, and First Lady, Mrs. Bush, will travel to Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico (in that order) from March 8-14, 2007.
