04 May 2012 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has instructed the government to draft and submit a bill ("On amendments to the Law of Kazakhstan") that would make May 7 a non-working public holiday to be called the "Defender of the Motherland Day".
16 Apr 2012 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The government of Kazakhstan has declared Monday, April 30, 2012, as another non-working bridge public holiday to link the annual Unity Day public holiday with the previous weekend.
01 Mar 2012 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The government of Kazakhstan has declared Friday, March 9, 2012, as a non-working public holiday to link the annual International Women's Day public holiday with the subsequent weekend.

15 Dec 2011 (Kazinform-Astana) The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has announced that he was in favour of the recently-voted new December 1st annual public holiday honoring Kazakhstan's first president, as "many countries recognize such a holiday".
11 Dec 2011 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The Kazakh Senate has adopted an amendment to the Kazakh law On holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan to establish a new annual state non-working public holiday, the Day of the First President of Kazakhstan on December 1st.
03 Dec 2011 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The Government of Kazakhstan has announced that it had declared the 4 days from Friday, December 16, to Monday, December 19, 2011, inclusively, as official non-working public holidays on account of the upcoming National Day holidays.
25 Aug 2011 (Kazakhstan Today-Gazeta) In a statement issued by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister, Karim Massimov, it was announced that the Government of Kazakhstan has declared Monday, August 29, 2011, as an official non-working public holiday.
30 Jun 2011 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The deputies of Kazakhstan's Maslikhat have unanimously approved the declaration of Monday and Tuesday, July 4 and 5, 2011, as one-off non-working public holidays throughout Kazakhstan.
29 Apr 2011 (Electronic government of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Astana) The Government of Kazakhstan has announced the extent of the 2011 non-working public holidays associated with the annual May 1st and May 9 non-working public holidays.

Governing Law: The official public holidays of Kazakhstan are regulated by the Law on Public Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Labour Law 1999 which was amended in 2001, 2005, and 2009.
Mid-Week Public Holidays: Section 56-4 of Kazakhstan's Labour Code entitles the government to move any public holiday that falls in the middle of the week to another weekday, such as a Monday or Friday, to minimize the disruption caused by holidays to business life.
Classification: Public holidays are grouped into 3 categories: National Holidays, State Public Holidays, and Religious Public Holidays. When any of the holidays of the first 2 categories fall on a weekend, a day in lieu is given on the next working day.
