Mauritania Changes Weekends To Friday/Saturday

Mauritania's Ministry of Labour (Ministère de la Fonction Publique, du Travail, de la Jeunesse et des Sports) has published Decree N° 2001-014, setting the weekly days of rest back to Saturday/Sunday, effective Friday, March 16, 2001.

This is the 2nd time that Mauritania changes its definition of the weekend, since it gained independence in 1960. In the 2 decades following its independence, Mauritania's week-ends were Saturday/Sunday. but, then, since 1983, president Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidalla changed Mauritania's week-ends to Thursday/Friday.
