Malacañang, Philippines presidential palace, has issued a statement confirming that tomorrow, Thursday, March 8, 2012, would not be a non-working public holiday in the Philippines.
The aforementioned announcement was made via the Twitter account of the Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines. The tweet ("March 8 (Women's Day) is not a special non-working holiday.) included a link to Proclamation No. 295, s. 2011, signed by President Aquino late last year (2011-12-01), which lists the special and regular public holidays in the Philippines for the calendar year 2012.
The aforementioned clarification seems to have been deemed necessary due to last month's approval by the Philippines House of Representatives, on second reading, of a bill declaring March 8 as a non-working holiday to celebrate National Women's Day. The bill is in the lower house, still pending approval upon its third and final reading.
