Swaziland's Home Affairs Minister, Princess Tsandzile, has announced that the upcoming Incwala annual non-working public holiday in Swaziland would occur on Saturday, December 17, 2016.

However, as December 17, 2016, falls on a Saturday, Monday, December 19, 2016, has been declared as a one-off day in lieu non-working public holiday in Swaziland.

The date of the main Incwala dance, which is an annual non-working public holiday in Swaziland, is usually announced only a few days beforehand (2015-12-24, 2015-01-06, 2013-12-16, 2012-12-19, 2011-12-09, 2010-12-21, 2009-12-31, 2008-12-13, 2007-12-26, and 2007-01-04), although today's announcement confirms the date which we have been predicting.

Due to the complex nature of the rule used to specify the date of the Incwala main day, and its related public holiday, the Incwala public holiday sometimes occurs twice in a year (2015-01-06, 2010-12-21, 2010-01-02, 2007-12-26, and 2007-01-04) and will have happened twice this year as it will as well as in 2018, and 2021. On the other hand, some years, it does not occur at all, as was the case in 2006, 2009 and 2014, and will be the case again in 2017 and 2020.
