The Small Business Minister of the State Government of Australia's State of Victoria, Philip Dalidakis, has officially ruled-out the move of the still-controversial AFL Grand Finale public holiday from the Friday before the Finals, to the Monday after, as had been requested by business groups who say it's costing its members AUD1.2 billion every year.

Six years ago (2011-07-17), Daniel Andrews, who was then leader of the opposition of Australia's State of Victoria had announced that he would support the push for an extra public holiday to celebrate AFL Grand Final week, if he became premier, a promise he kept as the Premier-elect of the State Government of Australia's State of Victoria, shortly after his election (2014-12-01 and 2015-07-08), by the publication of the declaration this new non-working public holiday in Australia's State of Victoria in the Government Gazette (as opposed to a possibly lengthy parliamentary debate).

The amended the list of official non-working public holidays in Australia's State of Victoria for the period of 2018, was initially released by the State Government of Australia's State of Victoria (2017-02-19), with "Date TBC" for the 2018 AFL Grand Finale public holiday, and the official date of the "Friday before the AFL Grand Final" annual non-working public holiday in Australia's State of Victoria was announced by the State Government of Australia's State of Victoria, late last spring (2017-06-17).
