The president of Nauru, Baron Divavesi Waqa, has declared Thursday, November 2, 2017, as a non-working public holiday in Nauru "in honour of the Queen’s Baton Relay" and to "give all Nauruans the opportunity to see the Baton as it travels through all 14 districts on Thursday".
Seven years ago (07-May-2010), the then president of Nauru, Marcus Stephen, had similarly declared May 8, 2010, as a one-off public holiday in Nauru on the occasion of the passing of the 2010 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton "to make it convenient for people of Nauru to celebrate the occasion of arrival of the Baton".
The aforementioned announcement of Thursday, November 2, 2017, as a non-working public holiday in Nauru, thus amends the list of 2017 public holidays in Nauru as announced late last year by the Government of Nauru (18-Dec-2016).
