At the preparatory meeting of the Comité Régional De Développement for the upcoming 2017 Grand Magal de Touba, the spokesperson, Serigne Bassirou Abdou Khadre Mbacké, announced that the date of the 2017 Grand Magal de Touba annual public holiday of Sénégal would be sometime between November 10 and 13, 2017.

After years of hesitation (09-Mar-2007, 26-Nov-2009, 22-Jan-2011, and 26-Oct-2011), the Magal de Touba was declared a one-off public holiday in Senegal for the first time in 2012, albeit after a lot of last-minute delays (15-Nov-2011, 17-Dec-2011, and 11-Jan-2012). The Magal de Touba was once again declared a one-off public holiday in Senegal (02-Nov-2012 and 07-Dec-2012) in 2013, when, following elections (07-Dec-2012), the Senegalese Cabinet of Ministers approved a decree declaring Tuesday, January 1st, 2013, the date of the first Magal de Touba of 2013, as a non-working public holiday throughout Sénégal ("déclaré férié, chômé et payé, la journée célébrant le Grand Magal de Touba édition 2013").

A year later (29-Oct-2013), the Prime Minister of Senegal, Aminata Touré, and her government finally drafted legislation declaring the Magal de Touba as an annual non-working public holiday in Senegal. This culminated (01-Dec-2013 and 26-Nov-2013) with Senegal's parliament unanimously approving the bill ("Projet de loi n°10/2013 complétant et modifiant certaines dispositions de la loi n° 74-52 du 04 novembre 1974 relative à la fête nationale et aux fêtes légales, modifiée") which made the Magal de Touba a new official annual non-working public holiday in Senegal, beginning 2 years ago (01-Nov-2016 and 13-Nov-2015).

Notwithstanding the aforementioned announcement that the date of the 2017 Grand Magal de Touba would be sometime between November 10 and 13, 2017, our forecast for the date of the 2017 Grand Magal de Touba annual public holiday of Sénégal is Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
