The Secretary of the Department of Personnel Management of the Goverment of Papua New Guinea, Taies Sansan, has issued the circular instruction No.18 of 2021, which declares Friday, July 23, 2021, as a public holiday to commemorate National Remembrance Day.
As per the text of the aforementioned circular, "National Executive Council confirmed in its decision no.261 of 2020 and Department of Personnel Management confirmed this in its circular instruction no.28 of 2020 on Public holidays for 2021".
The circular instruction No.18 of 2021 is in line with the thrice amended (2021-03-12, 2021-02-26 and 2021-01-05) list of official Papua New Guinea public holidays for the calendar year 2021 as contained in the PNG National Gazette G583, issued last September (2020-09-04).
In 2004, the Remembrance Day public holiday was moved from July 23 to April 25 (2004-09-20), in a move that was meant to be permanent, but which proved so unpopular that it was moved back to July 23, a year later (2005-10-01).
