Jersey Rules-Out May 10 Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, April 9, 1999)

Source: States of Jersey Greffe (Saint Helier)

The government of Jersey has confirmed that there would be no day in lieu public holiday, on Monday, May 10, 1999, to compensate the fact that this year's Liberation Day public holiday falls on a Sunday.

In this instance, the States of Jersey followed the letter of the law governing public holidays in Jersey, the "Schedule to the Public Holidays and Bank Holidays (Jersey) Act 1952", which specifies that May 9th is a public holiday, if it falls on a weekday (defined in the Act's preamble as "Monday to Saturday inclusive").
