A bill has left commission for a first reading in front of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. This law, if passed would make the dates of Saint John (June 24) and SS Peter and Paul (June 29) national public holidays (feriados nacionais).
The bill's author pointed out that in recent years, governments at both the state and federal levels have regularly made these 2 dates optional public holidays (ponto facultativo) at the last minute.
