Estonia's parliament has approved the Public and National Holidays Act Amendment Act (RT I 2009, 34, 229) which amends the current legislation governing public holidays, days off, and national holidays in Estonia.
The aforementioned act amends the 1998 Public and National Holidays Act (RT I 1998, 13, 162) which overhauled the Estonian legislation governing public holidays and days off in Estonia (27-Jan-1998), as was amended (11-Feb-1999, 14-Apr-2004, 23-Mar-2005, 15-Apr-2005, 15-Feb-2007), by adding a new annual national holiday, Commemoration Day of victims of Nazism and Communism, on August 23.
