The Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science (LCRSSS) has announced that, in Libya, according to astronomical calculations, the upcoming Muslim month of Ramadan will start on Friday, August 21, 2009.
Though the LCRSSS announcement does not specify the date of the End of Ramadan, we can use the LCRSSS methodology to see that, in Tripoli, the New Moon occurs at 20:44 on September 18, confirming that, in Libya, the first day of the month of Shawwal (the "Eid Al-Fitr" festival) will be on Saturday, September 19, 2009.
As usual, this means that Libya will be one of the first countries to observe the feast corresponding to the end of Ramadan (26-Sep-2008, 11-Oct-2007, and 20-Oct-2006).
