The Liberal Party of Canada's Province of New Brunswick has lost yesterday's general elections, thus dashing hopes for a new annual provincial public holiday on the third Monday of February.
Earlier this month (06-Sep-2010), then Prime Minister of New Brunswick, Shawn Graham, had announced that his government, if re-elected, would declare a new annual provincial public holiday, Family Day, on the third Monday of February.
New Brunswick would thus have become the 6th Canadian province to observe a provincial public holiday on the 3rd Monday of February, with long-time observers, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, having been joined by Manitoba (28-Apr-2007 and 26-Sep-2007) and Ontario (04-Sep-2007 and 11-Oct-2007), 3 years ago, and Prince Edward's Island, the year after (06-Apr-2008 and 24-Apr-2009).
