Nepal Declares Eid Public Holiday Tomorrow

(Posted on Thursday, September 9, 2010)

The Government of Nepal has declared tomorrow, Friday, September 10, 2010, as the date of the upcoming end of Ramadan public holiday.

After years of protests by the Muslim minority (30-Jun-2007), Muslim public holidays were added to the official list of Nepalese public holidays for 2008 (01-Oct-2008), and maintained last year (20-Sep-2009), as part of a massive crop of additional public holidays catering to all the religious minorities of the country (28-Dec-2007).

Note that, after a brief interval in 2000-2001 when a 2-day weekend was tried (13-Jan-2001), Nepal observes a 1-day weekend on Saturdays, meaning that Nepal will be on holidays both Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11, 2010.
