Nigeria Declares End of Ramadan Public Holidays

(Posted on Friday, September 3, 2010)

Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Emmanuel Ihenacho, has announced that the Federal Government of Nigeria had declared Thursday and Friday, September 9-10, 2010, as public holidays on account of the upcoming Id-el-Fitr festival.

This year, contrary to what happened the last 2 years (18-Sep-2009 and 25-Sep-2008), Nigeria did not move the End of Ramadan public holidays to match the beginning of the week, and seems to have returned to the previous practice of following the Libyan Muslim calendar (14-Sep-2007).
