Philippines Declares October 25 Public Holiday

Philippines President, Benigno Aquino III, has issued Proclamation No. 48, declaring Monday, October 25, 2010, the day of the nationwide barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, as a non-working public holiday.

Last week (03-Oct-2010), the Philippines Commission on Elections (Comelec) had announced that it will ask the President of the Philippines to issue an executive order declaring a one-off non-working public holiday on Monday, October 25, 2010, the date of the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, as had been done on past occasions (17-Oct-2007).
