At a krutu held on the occasion of yesterday's Maroons Day, Suriname's President, Desi Bouterse, announced that Maroons Day, on October 10, would henceforth be an annual non-working public holiday in Suriname.

Three years ago (08-Aug-2007), Suriname declared August 9, as a new annual International Day of Indigenous People, public holiday.
