The Government of Australia's Northern Territory has gazetted the upcoming Christmas Day and New Year's Day as public holidays, in addition to this year's day in lieu public holidays on the following Monday.
Notification of the additional public holidays was in the Government Gazette No. S63, 7 November 2011.
The aforementioned decision mirrors that of Australia's state of Queensland which recently proposed an amendment to its Public Holidays Bill (08-Nov-2011) to ensure that public holidays that fall on a weekend get treated as public holidays.
