Bangladesh's National Moon Sighting Committee has announced that it had sighted the New Moon crescent last night and, therefore, that the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, and related public holidays, would be observed across the country based on the date of Monday, November 7, 2011.
The aforementioned announcement was anticipated, earlier this month (13-Oct-2011), by Bangladesh's religious affairs state minister, Shahjahan Miah, and is in line with the Government Notification No. 05.173.008.09.00.001.2010-437 which lists the official public holidays for the calendar year 2011 and was approved at a weekly Cabinet meeting a year ago (19-Oct-2010).
In other Bangladesh public holidays news, the government of Bangladesh has declared Sunday, October 30, 2011, as a one-off municipal non-working public holiday in the Narayanganj city corporation on account of the city polls being held on that date.
