Late yesterday, Vanuatu's President, Johnson Iolu Abbil, signed the "Declaration of Public Holiday Order No: 120 of 2010" declaring Monday, January 3, 2011, as an official nationwide public holiday in Vanuatu.
The announcement came as a surprise, as only a few days ago (30-Dec-2010), Vanuatu's Private Secretary to the Head of State, Rave Nigai, had announced that neither Friday, December 31, 2010, nor Monday, January 3, 2011, would be public holidays.
