Egyptian Public Holiday February 4

(Posted on Friday, January 20, 2012)

Source: Egypt State Information Service (Cairo)

The Chairman of the Egyptian National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, Hatem Oud, has announced that the date of the upcoming birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammed, and thus of the related non-working public holiday, would be on Saturday, February 4, 2012.

It is not clear, yet, if Egypt's Central Bank will declare the following day, Sunday, February 5, 2012, as a day in lieu bank holiday for all banks and financial institutions in Egypt.

The declaration of a one-off Sunday bank holiday by the Central Bank of Egypt when a non-working public holiday falls on a Friday or Saturday, is common (04-Jan-2012, 24-Nov-2011, 20-Jul-2011 and 05-Jan-2011), but not systematic.
