The government of Nepal has announced that Tuesday, January 24, 2012, had been declared a non-working public holiday nationwide on account of the upcoming Sonam Lhosar.
The aforementioned Sonam Loshar New Year was added as a government and regional public holiday in 2008 as part of a major reshuffling of Nepalese public holidays (07-Mar-2008), which saw the installation of Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Christmas, the Birthday of Guru Nanak, Ubhauli Udhyauli, Goura, and 2 Lhosars (Tamu and Gyalpo), Siruwa and Maghi, as official Nepalese public holidays.
