The government of Yemen has announced that the weekly days of rest (weekends) would be changed from the current Thursday/Friday to Friday/Saturday.

As per the aforementioned announcement, Saturday, February 4, 2012, will be the first Saturday off in Yemen, after which the new Friday/Saturday weekends will be the norm.

Other Muslim countries have already changed from a Thursday/Friday weekend to a "semi-universal" Friday/Saturday weekend: the UAE (31-May-2006), Bahrain (02-Aug-2006), Kuwait (04-Aug-2007), Sudan (09-Jan-2008) and Algeria (24-Jul-2009).
