Earlier today, the chairman of Indonesia's election commission (KPU) announced that the government has decided to make April 9, the polling day for the upcoming parliamentary elections, a public holiday to encourage all voters to cast their ballot.
This announcement which confirms our forecast of last summer (11-Aug-2008).
Note however, that, on the same day, the General Elections Commission agreed to let the 2 districts of East Flores and Lembata, in East Nusa Tenggara Province, delay holding national legislative elections, until April 14, following protests from local residents (12-Jan-2009) that the April 9 polls fall during the holy week.
