The UAE's Labour Minister, HE Saqr Ghobash, announced that, on the occasion of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holidays, private sector companies and corporations would be off on the first and second days of the month of Shawwal.
In a separate announcement, based on Cabinet decision No 17 for 2009, the UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Human Resources Authority, HE Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami, had announced that, the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public sector holidays would begin one day earlier, on Saturday, September 19 (Ramadan 29), and end one day later, on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 (Shawwal 3).
The last day of the month of Ramadan was declared an annual public sector holiday in 2002 (12-Feb-2002).
