Bangladesh Declares October 22 Public Holiday

The government of Bangladesh has declared Thursday, October 22, 2026, an executive-order government public holiday on account of the immersion of Durga idols on that date.
Government offices will be closed from Tuesday, October 20, through Thursday, October 22, for Nabami, Bijoya Dashami and the day following the immersion. Combined with the regular Friday and Saturday weekend, government employees will receive a five-day break through October 24, 2026.
Bangladesh Central Bank’s has not yet announced a bank closure on October 22, 2026, but we expect it to follow the government in declaring Friiday, October 22, 2026, a bank holiday.

Madrid 2027 Public Holidays Announced

The Governing Council of Spain's autonomous Community of Madrid has approved the annual list of official 2027 non-working public holidays (calendario laboral).
As per the aforementioned announcement, the San José public holiday whose appearance over the years has been on and off, will be one of the official 2027 public holidays in the Madrid region, but the oft celebrated Corpus Christi will not be.
The May 2 (Día de la Comunidad de Madrid) will not be a public holiday in 2027, and neither will the following Monday. Instead there will be a public holiday on August 16 (Lunes siguiente a La Asunción).

The Council of Ministers is still studying how to facilitate attendance without excessive disruption to economic activity, and options reportedly still under consideration include one or more holidays, half-day holidays, compensable non-working days and measures limited to particular cities. But no definitive dates or geographical scope have yet been announced.

The Deputy Spokesperson for Thailand's Prime Minister's Office, Lalida Periswiwatana, has announced that the government of Thailand had declared Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as special public holidays in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, and Samut Prakan provinces, due to heavy rainfall and flooding in many areas, which are affecting public transportation.
State enterprises, financial institutions, and the private sector, are encouraged to consider the appropriateness of also declaring this day as a holiday.
A later announcement by the Bank of Thailand (BOT) indicated that commercial banks are requested to continue providing their services to the public as usual to ensure the continuity of financial transactions.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand is also expected to remain open as usual.

South Korea Could Restore UN Day Public Holiday

South Korean Democratic Party lawmaker Yang Boo-nam has introduced legislation seeking to restore October 24, United Nations Day, as an annual national holiday.
October 24 was observed as a statutory public holiday in South Korea from 1950 until 1975, before being removed from the holiday calendar in 1976.
The current proposal would initially restore its status as a national commemorative holiday, but it would not automatically make it a non-working public holiday. This would require a separate legislative amendment.

Armenia Proposes June 23 Public Service Day

The Government of Armenia has submitted draft legislation amending the Law on Holidays and Memorial Days (Հայաստանի Հանրապետության տոների և հիշատակի օրերի մասին) to establish June 23 as an annual Public Service Day (Հանրային ծառայողի օր). The bill is expected to be considered by the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs on October 5, 2026.
The proposed professional observance is intended to recognize the role of Armenia’s public service and public servants, and its date corresponds to the United Nations Public Service Day, which is also observed annually on June 23.

The proposed dates correspond to the feast days of Madrid’s patron saint, San Isidro Labrador, and patroness, Our Lady of Almudena, respectively.

New Zealand Clarifies Weekend Public Holiday Observance Tables

Employment New Zealand has revised its official 2026 and 2027 public-holiday tables to show both the actual weekend date and the alternative Monday or Tuesday observance where applicable.
For example, its 2026 Anzac Day row now lists Saturday, April 25, or Monday, April 27; Boxing Day lists Saturday, December 26, or Monday, December 28. Which day applies depends on whether the employee would have worked on the weekend.
Note, however, that the revised 2027 Anzac Day row contains an apparent weekday error: it calls April 25 a Saturday, although that date falls on Sunday.

The government of the Indian state of Assam has declared Saturday, October 17, 2026, an additional public holiday for state-government employees on the occasion of Durga Puja.
The aforementioned cabinet decision, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and approved earlier today, adds October 17 to the Durga Puja holidays already contained last November's vide notification No.221561/440 containing the list of public holidays in Assam for 2026.
As per CM Sarma, "the additional day was approved as the usual three-day Puja holiday would have been shorter this year because one of the festival days falls on a Sunday".

The Bolivian Government has issued Decreto Supremo N.º 5725, declaring Friday, September 25, 2026, an additional departmental public holiday in the department of Pando, to be observed by both the public and private sectors.
The aforementioned additional holiday is intended to encourage tourism and economic activity during celebrations marking the 88th anniversary of the creation of the Department of Pando, and specifies that "the new holiday on September 25 does not modify or replace the departmental holiday that corresponds to September 24".

This appeared to confirm an earlier statement by President of the Refoundation Michaël Randrianirina that no such holiday had been approved by the Council of Ministers.
However, only a few hours later, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Presidency reversed that reversal and confirmed that September 25 would, after all, be observed as a paid non-working day nationwide.

The new observance will commemorate the date, in 1895, when Jakob Aljaž erected the Aljaž Tower on the summit of Mount Triglav, which subsequently became an enduring symbol of Slovenian identity.
The amendment also changes the official names of two existing national holidays. The August 17 holiday will henceforth be known as the Day of the Unification of Prekmurje Slovenes with the Mother Nation, while the September 15 observance will become the Day of the Return of Primorska to the Motherland.
