Sri Lanka Declares January 27 Public Holiday

Sri Lanka's Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, D. Dissanayaka, has announced that Wednesday, Janauary 27, 2010, the day after the presidential elections, would be a one-off public holiday.

For its part, Sri Lanka's Labour Ministry has requested that the private sector, all state corporations and statutory boards grant its employees a public holiday on January 27.

This one-off "Public, Bank and Mercantile holiday" corresponds to the day after the upcoming presidential elections.
