On Tuesday, Taiwan's Legislature passed the Hakka Basic Act aimed at promoting Hakka language and culture, and obliging the government to designate a national Hakka Day holiday.
The mandated national Hakka Day holiday will be a regular working day (ie. not an official non-working public holiday).
Such declarations of new holidays that are regular working days are common in Taiwan (02-Nov-2009, 21-Oct-2009, and 21-Sep-2007).
