Venezuela's Education Minister (Ministro del Poder Popular para la Educación), Héctor Navarro, has issued an official statement to the effect that, contrary to what happened last year, February 2, 2010, would not be a public holiday.
Last year (02-Feb-2009), a decree published in the Gaceta Oficial (número 39.111) made Monday, February 2, 2009, a one-off official public holiday in Venezuela to coincide with the 10 years in power of Hugo Chavez.
Speculation that February 2nd would become an annual public holiday, already rife in early January, was recently raised a notch when President Chavez's ideological soulmate, the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, declared the date of his assumption of power a new annual public holiday in Bolivia (20-Jan-2010).
