Malawi's Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has announced that, regardless of the results of the Moon-sighting committee tonight, the date of the upcoming Eid-el-Fitri (End of Ramadan) non-working public holiday in Malawi had been declared as Friday, August 9, 2013.
As per a statement issued by spokesman of Local Government Ministry, Maganizo Mazeze, "The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development wishes to inform the general public that on advice from the Moslems Association of Malawi in conjunction with Majlis Ulama Council of Malawi and the Riyatul Hilal Committee, this year's Eid ul Fipri public holiday will be observed on Friday August 9, 2013".
For years, the MAM (Moslems Association of Malawi) has been calling on the Government of Malaei to also declare Eid-ul-Qurban and the day for the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, as official public holidays in Malawi (07-Jul-2007).
