The government of Afghanistan has declared Wednesday, February 15, 2012, as a non-working public holiday in Afghanistan on account of the upcoming "Soviet Army Defeat Day".

The aforementioned announcement, issued by Ali Eftekhari, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Martyred, Disabled, Labor and Social Affairs, is in line with the 2007 declaration the 26th day of Dalwo (around February 15, according to the Afghan calendar) as a new annual public holiday to commemorate the victory of Mujahidin against the invading Soviet troops (14-Feb-2007 and 16-Feb-2006).
