Paraguay's President, Federico Franco, has decreed a non-working public sector holiday for Wednesday, March 27, 2013, to let Paraguayan civil servants begin their Holy Week non-working public holidays earlier.
As per the aforementioned Decreto Nº 10.781, signed yesterday, Paraguay's public servants will be off all day Wednesday, March 27, 2013, to be able to start their preparations for the Holy Week whose celebrations merit preparations and travel within the country bringing at the same time economic benefits to Paraguay ("las conmemoraciones religiosas ameritan preparativos y desplazamientos ciudadanos por todo el territorio de la República y con ello se garantiza un impacto económico directo por el consumo de bienes y servicios").
Holy Wednesday has often been declared a public sector holiday in Paraguay in the past (2012-04-03, 2011-04-18, 2010-03-30 and 2009-04-06), though often, under former President Fernando Lugo, only for the afternoon, and very often these afternoon public holidays were declared at the last moment.
